Ray Lopez, Maria’s grandson, opened up Ray’s Drive Inn in 1956 to sling puffies, and the rest is history. At dusk, the property was surrounded by fireflies. Soon after purchasing the property, the family went camping together during the Spring. They had a vision to create a local getaway for their family and friends to escape the city life and experience the great outdoors. Wahwahtaysee is Native American for firefly. Wahwahtaysee Resort was started by a local Austin family, Robert Dillard and his two sons, Sammy and Donny Dillard. The Medina water level varies so sometimes we have a lake other times a creek, but we ALWAYS have water! We are dog friendly kid friendly and people friendly! Boulderdash and our guests continue to exceeded our expectations and this property has become a place full of fun memories, not only for ourselves but for whomever visits. We have also added a vintage trailer named Stella and are currently working on our Barn apartment! All of our RV sites have lovely hill country views, our Cabin and riverside tent sites are on the lower level and have amazing shade from beautiful pecan/walnut,oak and cypress trees! We have 300+ feet of riverfront, so there is lots of places to spread out, and enjoy the crystal clear water. It was beautiful and PERFECT! The cabin was already here, along with some very old RV hookups which we have since completely refurbished and updated. My dad joined us on that trip and I think we all kind of fell in love with both the Medina river and Bandera! We started looking for property, and amazingly found this one on the river at the mouth of Lake Medina. Hi Hip Campers! My husband and I are have always enjoyed camping and the outdoors, we love to explore, and had always hoped to be lucky enough to find a spot in the hill country to retire! In February 2017 we decided to attend the “Cowboy Mardi Gras” in Bandera, and found a great spot to camp on Lake Medina.
